WakeTV goes turbo!

Last weekend at the Wakeboard Pro Tour Stop in Orlando, WAKEtv The Wakeboard Video Magazine and Lakefront Productions Inc. unveiled a new CCTV system (closed circuit television), designed to enhance live events and competitions by providing slow motion instant replays on monitors located all over the event site including the sponsor's booths.

Fully utilizing the advantages of digital television technology, WAKEtv's Multi-Camera CCTV system ran flawlessly all day Saturday and Sunday, providing a variety of programming including Sponsor's commercials, digital slow motion instant replays of all the event's action including freestyle motorcross replays and competitions highlights and wipeouts. The CCTV Monitors were located in the Athlete's tent, VIP/Press, sponsor's booths and our closed circuit feed was also plugged in to the sponsor's motorhomes and buses so our highlights were being seen on screens everywhere.

By the time the crowds showed up Saturday, we had six cameras set up including the slider dock start camera and the transmitted camera from the boat as well as cameras at each of the sliders up and down the lake and at the base of the freestyle motorcross jump. We had a communications system which enabled us to communicate from the WAKEtv Van to each of the camera guys.

As each rider would take to the course, we would show one camera live and record another angle into the computer at the same time. Then after a fall or during the turn around, we'd playback some Instant Replays of what had just happened seconds ago but from a different angle. One rider fell and during the time it took the boat to turn around, we managed to replay five tricks. That's a lot. In any basketball telecast, you may get two replays or maybe three.

Then Dean Lavelle decided to sketch a landing on his MotoX bike and we caught it on tape and in the computer. This replay, including the ending where he lays his bike down and slides into the chain link fence where it gets stuck, was played over and over throughout the day. We're sure that only a handful of people actually got to see it live, but everytime we'd tell them we were going to play that clip again, crowds rushed the stage to see the monitors. People wanted to see what they had been missing. We gave them exactly that on Closed Circuit TV.

Froggy's whirlybird off the kicker, Dean's motoX crash, JD Webb, Scott Byerly, awesome slider tricks and crashes played in slow motion for maximum effect, all this was playing on tv screens all over the OWC this weekend. You could see it live and then turn around and see it over and over and over again. Sick crashes seemed to bring the crowds to the CCTV monitors everytime.

Feedback from the tour sponsor's was overwhelmingly positive. The monitors and instant replays were plenty of reason to drive crowds INTO the sponsor's booths to catch the action. No longer was there a need to race down to the shoreline to see what's happening on the water. This weekend, you could relax and shop for that new rope handle or wakeboard in the Krown booth and not miss Darin Shapiro's competition run. In fact, you would get a better angle including instant replays!

The WAKEtv CCTV system was designed to maximize the impact of the event. By slowing down the action and playing it back, the crowds can develop a true appreciation for the difficult tricks the riders are throwing. Sponsor's can incorporate their logos and commercials into our daily programming and keep crowds packed in their booths all day long.

When we announced to the crowds that Parks Bonifay's run would be replayed in slow motion on the CCTV monitors, the rush of people to the main stage monitor was crazier than when they threw out free tshirts! The crowds loved the CCTV system and the instant replays and especially the slow motion wipeouts that would be immediately followed by another sponsor's logo.
