From top to bottom the 2003 CD lineup is sure to turn some heads, and get people interested. The entire CD line, save the WS01s, seems to come from a different gene pool than other bindings, and that is what got us interested! From an innovative base plate to ultra cushioned feet beds there has got to be something on these bad dogs that will please your senses.

Collective Development was kind enough to send WakePics.com a whole grab bag of garb, however this review will focus on the FS01s. Out of the box, they looked, felt, and were constructed a bit different than many other bindings we’ve seen here. The upper support on these things are amazing and have a very strong snowboard feel with ultra ankle support. But the best feature I noticed so far was the slotted base let for an uncompromising amount of stance configuration. The screws came with slotted bars to hold the bindings down and help with stance alignment.

The binding, jet black with yellow stitching, looks clean, precise, and looks to have a pretty durable construction. Custom reverse hardware makes it easy to take the binding apart and the lace entry system allows for maximum comfort with maximum customization for your feet. The footbed looks to be two pieces molded together. The first, a softer more absorbent layer, sits on top of a harder supportive layer to prevent from bottoming out when going big. A feature that is now apparent in many current models across the board.

It took a little bit of getting used to, but once we laced up the bindings a couple times, they got pretty comfortable. At first I was a little tentative on wrenching down the top three lace loops, but I really had to in order to get the support I wanted. I forgot how tight new bindings could be!

Taking them for a spin was great, my feet were locked to the board, and they seemed to ride a little closer to the deck than I was used to. The first thing that went through my mind was that the footbeds were too thin, but I was pleasantly surprised at the cushion they provided. With the support, customization, weight, and technology, they’ll give any binding a run for their money.

So if you’re looking for a different style and some upgraded technology go to your local dealer and demo a pair.
