Malibu scores boat of the year... again!

(Merced, CA) – At the Annual PowerBoat Magazine Awards Banquet, this past Friday night, the new Malibu Wakesetter VLX was overwhelmingly selected as the 2005 Tow Boat of the Year. This makes 16 Product Excellence Awards for the world’s No. 1 tow boat manufacturer and 4 consecutive Tow Boat of the Year Awards.

If a football team can be considered a dynasty after three world championships then Malibu Boats deserves the same recognition for their long-standing reign as Tow Boat of the Year. Malibu Boats has taken home 9 Tow Boat of the Year Awards over the last decade and eleven since 1992. They have won more Tow Boat of the Year and Product Excellence awards from Powerboat Magazine than any other tow boat builder and the most consecutive of any single inboard builder in history.

The award.
President and CEO of Malibu Boats, Bob Alkema, accepted the company’s fourth straight Tow Boat of the Year Award, which was presented at Powerboat Magazine’s 29th Annual Awards Celebration and Banquet Friday, May 6, 2005 at the Ritz-Carlton Resort Hotel in Marina del Rey, California. And although this was Malibu Boats 15th trip to the esteemed awards ceremony, the employee-owners of Malibu Boats were as excited about this latest accomplishment as they were in 1988 when they received Malibu’s first Product Excellence Award.

The reaction.
Paul Singer, Malibu Boats VP of Sales and Marketing, had this to say about Malibu’s latest Tow Boat of the Year Award, "The Tow Boat of the Year Award provides well deserved recognition for the employee-owners at Malibu Boats. From the engineers to the guys that detail the boats they take an extreme amount of pride in what they do. This award is a big pat on the back for a job well done." Singer continues, "Once the trophy makes its way around both the California and Tennessee manufacturing facilities, everyone basks in about a minute of glory. Then we all go right back to the drawing board so we can take our efforts, a step beyond again next year."

The test.
The 2005 Wakesetter VLX was put through the paces by the Powerboat Magazine Test Team back in October on the Colorado River in Parker, AZ. Testers had unlimited access to the newly redesigned Wakesetter VLX and the Malibu Boats’ research and development engineers that brought her to life. The VLX was scrutinized in eight categories including construction, workmanship, performance, water sports performance, handling, engineering, innovation and comfort. The boat’s rating in each of these categories will determine this latest award.

PowerBoat Magazine testers raved, "...Malibu’s Wakesetter VLX represents the state-of-the-art in wakeboard boats." As testing progressed these types of comments continued to flow. "Boarders will love the wake created by the Wedge hydrofoil and the Malibu Launch System." Testers could not say enough about the Wakesetter VLX. "...the boat’s tracking was pure." Even the testers just along for the ride weighed in, "Passengers will melt into the Wakesetter VLX’s plush interior."

The Malibu Wakesetter VLX Performance Report was published in the January 2005 issue of Powerboat Magazine and titled "Today’s tomorrow". To view the Wakesetter VLX’s Performance Report from Powerboat Magazine online, go to http://www.powerboatmagazine.com/2005tests/01_05_malibu.php.

The boat.
The wakeboard boat that started it all, Malibu’s Wakesetter VLX, lunged forward in the industry from a lethal riding tool to legendary status in 2005. With a completely redesigned hull and deck the Wakesetter VLX now measures a full 21’ 6" from bow to transom with a beam of 98". Not only does this increased size and new design equate to greater creature comfort inside the boat, it also gives the Wakesetter VLX a larger, newly shaped footprint in the water for a phenomenal wake. The Wakesetter VLX is the hardcore tow boat big wake enthusiasts demand with all of the luxurious comforts they never thought possible.

Malibu Boats introduced seven new models for the 2005 model-year and the Wakesetter VLX is a champion among champions in that group. This latest PowerBoat Magazine Tow Boat of the Year Awards proves that point.

Malibu’s Tow Boat of the Year write-up will appear in the "2005 Boats of the Year" issue of Powerboat Magazine, available in late May. Watch your local newsstand and www.powerboatmag.com for more information.
