Wakeboarding on a Mutant

What do you get when you take a Dynaride Ellipse 140, Trip side fins, and premier main fins? Well, you’ll just have to read to find out. For about 200 bucks you can have a board with characteristics of the best boards in wakeboarding all rolled into one. But before you can understand what the total benefit is, you’ll have to first understand each component.

Fist we’ll start with the Dynaride Ellipse 140. The Dynaride Ellipse features a 140cm board that measures 16.25” at the center, 9.25” tip/tail, and uses a 3” three stage rocker. Other boards that feature three stage rockers are such boards as the Byerly (3.1” rocker), which is known for incredible pop off the wake, and the brand new Premier (2.6” rocker). At 6.9 pounds this foam Dynaride sure puts these other boards in a run for their money. Anthother unique aspect of this widely unknown board is a center V bottom that allows for instant tracking and soft landings.

Next in line are the Trip side fins, which allow for the ultimate in control and speed when edging. These are .75” fins placed roughly 6 inches from the tail and 1.5 inches inside the board. I decided to use these trip fins to get the ‘molded fin feel’ you get from riding other boards that have such fins, like the Belmont, Byerly Finless, Premier, Prodigy, etc.

Finally there is the newly designed Premier fin which was added to the Premier to that is shallow enough so the board still has that snowboard feel, but catches on landings when it needs to. This fin shape is 2.5” longer than any other Hyperlite fins styles.

With the rocker, this modified board has no fins touching the ground, making surface spins, sliding the wake, and sliders easier. I’ll be putting this board to the test tomorrow, look for the updates, and the full scoop.
