Building a ballast system on a budget

Building a ballast system on a budget

We've hyped it a little and we've tested it thoroughly (grin!), now we're ready to tell you what we did to build a ballast system for around $60 dollars. Why you ask? Because of the amount of time (and frustration) it took to get the sacks laid out, pulled straight and filled with water every time we went riding. We would spend a good 15 to 30 minutes each time we went out on the water just getting the boat ready to tow.

This drove us to develop a homemade ballast system that was easy to use, was cheap to build and safe for everyday use. How we kept it cheap was by utilizing what we already had, a couple of fat sacks, a couple of pumps and some good old shade tree ingenuity. The modifications we made to this boat should be applicable to any V-Drive on the market. For you direct drive owners out there, you could modify this design a little to achieve the same results except that your sacks will be located on the side of the motor cover. One important note here is that we're putting together a two pump system which requires you to do something unnatural, turn the sacks face down.
