Tubelite v2.0

A couple months ago the WakePics.com staff got a hold of the newest thing to hit the wakeboarding market since the twin tip wakeboard, a clear wakeboard. That’s right, bullet proof glass step aside, here comes a lexan composite aluminum tubed wakeboard. The first time you see this thing you think three things: What the hell? Is it strong? Who makes it?

The Tubelite wakeboard, made in Arcata California, is not quite like all the other rides you’ll see- it will definitely make you double take. Now with all these claims that it won’t break, it won’t this, it won’t that. The crazy folks here at WakePics central jumped on it, tossed it around, shot it with a high powered pellet gun, rode it like a wakeskate, and even drug each other around on it inside the house boat. Verdict: Unbreakable. I was actually really impressed. This thing is pretty hard core.

This new version of the Tubelite has some red aluminum and is noticeably stronger than the previous model we got our hands on (little blue). In my opinion it still could be a little stiffer, but that is just my riding style. It still seemed a little hard on landings, but was definitely an improvement over the previous model.

Some of the areas that still need to be addressed are the rocker of the board, which is a pretty mild two inches or so. The stance width should also be adjusted to let riders strap in a little wider than it is currently- I think the standard these days is around 24 to 25 inches for a board that size. The stance felt a little more narrow than I was used to, and it definitely added to some awkwardness on the deck. The final thing I would do is put some injected foam in the aluminum rails so that the board floats a little higher when it’s resting in the water.

Again a great idea, but it still needs a bit of polishing up. This is definitely a great new look for a sport that doesn’t have many different designs to choose from. Give it a shot, you might be surprised. And if all else fails, look at the water below you! Schweeeeet.
